Preselected objectives for cutting Two preselected UIS2 objectives (UPLFLN4x, LUCPLFLN20x) are offered for cutting of small organisms, tissue areas, single cells or subcellular structures. High transmission rates at 355 nm, excellent numerical apertures and superb working distances contribute to their outstanding optical values. The nosepiece can be optionally equipped with two additional objectives according to the users needs. |

Contamination free membrane technology During the process of cutting and ablating the specimen is safely embedded between a glass slide and a membrane frame. The sample is collected manually by a three step CapLift function: The cap is positioned over the cut region, lowered onto the membrane until the adhesive film sticks to the lid of the cap and subsequently it is lifted together with the extracted target. |

UV-A laser for cutting and ablating The maintenance free solid state UV-A laser (~355nm) integrated into the SmartCut system is pulsed with a high beam quality for precise and very quick cutting and ablating. Laser power and focus are computer controlled and operated via the system integrated UVCut Plus software. The 'cold ablation' process of the UV-A laser leaves the sample unaffected and has no impact on DNA/RNA or proteins. Furthermore, the viability of living cells is not affected after precise microdissection, laser microsurgery or microinjection. |

Intuitive operating software The heart of the SmartCut system is the UVCut Plus software. Its intuitive graphical user interface gives access to the control of specific laser microdissection functions as well as easy to use process and cutting routines. The cutting path is drawn into the computer live image by free-hand selection or predefined figures; an optional Touchpen monitor facilitates this task. Marked areas are automatically cut. |

Microdissection of living cells The contamination free membrane technology utilised in the SmartCut, SmartCut Plus and CellCut Plus Microdissection Systems is extremly usefull for cutting of living cells submerged in cell culture medium. Selection and isolation of single cell clones for subcultivation has never been so easy and reliable. Cells are grown in special chambers with a membrane bottom. Those chambers are placed inside regular cell culture dishes. Target cells are excised and the membrane chamber is removed. The selected cells will remain with the adherent membrane at the bottom of the sorrounding culture dish and can be directly subcultivated. |
