Personalisation Creating an efficient workflow requires careful definition of the tasks and tools at each stage. With the cellSens platform’s dynamic GUI the same is true – the tools you need for each stage are clearly available, without clutter or the need to search. The personally adjusted GUI can easily be stored and recalled according to users actual usecase situation.
Complete camera control Modern cameras feature a number of functions that can be changed to enhance or perfect an image; for example, exposure time and pixel-binning. Olympus cellSens Entry software controls such features on all Olympus digital microscope cameras, from the latest high-end research cameras e.g. the Olympus XM10, to the entry-level documentation cameras such as the Olympus SC30. As a result, scientists can maximise the quality of their images.
Easy Measurements Olympus cellSens Entry now includes easy to use tools to automatically configure a camera/microscope combination, enabling the creation of "calibrated images" depending on the magnification used. The user would then be able to compute simple measures like lenghts, angles and areas by choosing the desired measure tool: this can be done even on live images.
Live image acquisition The Olympus cellSens Entry supports live image acquisition in a number of different formats, as well as the direct generation of movies in .AVI format. For this, cellSens includes an integrated solution for automatic exposure control. Live optimisation functions are also available, which include online shading correction, white balance and a focus indicator. A live histogram and the overexposure indicator make it easier to exploit the cameras‘ entire dynamic range.
Straightforward file handling By integrating with standard Microsoft Windows systems, cellSens Entry enables images to be saved, retrieved, deleted and printed via familiar commands and interfaces. The software reads and writes various common image formats. Very large and multi-dimensional images are saved in the proprietary Olympus format and can be exported in standard image formats (JPEG, TIFF and PNG). The integrated image navigator provides all the tools required to navigate the images including a zoom function and the thumbnail gallery view. Furthermore, a Microsoft Windows File Explorer pane can be included within any of the workflow areas for instant access to the entire folder structure of the PC, and includes drag & drop functionality for opening images.
Intelligent image control The cellSens Entry software can be used to perform straight-forward post-capture processing, including intensity and white balance adjustment, contrast optimisation and image inversion. The Olympus cellSens layers technology enables the addition of arrows and text annotations to highlight regions of interest, without actually influencing the original image (i.e. there is no overwriting of pixels with fonts or symbols). In addition, images can be combined into multi-layered image files which can subsequently be edited to change layer order or delete unwanted layers.
